I had this thought while in a newsagent browsing magazines and heat magazine caught my eye. On the top of the magazine was the headline " Heats 100 Sexiest Men Alive" and it made me think how accurate is this?

I personally can't look at a picture of any of these and judge them because I am neither female nor gay. Thus, I leave reordering of the places to you (if you like men). You may be expecting me to say something pathetic and whiny like: "it's all wrong because I'm not on it" but that's not what this article is about. Anyway I never thought I would be and honestly am elated I'm not on that list – I'm happy with top billion but still would not care if I'm not even there. I'm one of those people who don't really care how they look. Fair enough I don't ride down the street on a cow naked having not shaved for 20 years shouting "death to all humans" but nor do I spend 3 hours each morning getting dressed.
The first think I noticed was there is no-one Arabic, very few Asians, Africans and almost everyone is a white American, European or Australian. I'm very confident that looking good is not restricted to 50% of the inhabited continents. As well as that the only people who made the list were celebrities. Thus, omitting the majority of the population.
I also read about a year ago that Gordon Brown hit the Daily Mails' list at number 97. It leaves much to the imagination as to why a 55 (at the time) year old man can beat hundreds of 20 year old body builders. The survey was done by 10,000 readers who may have been having a laugh. But not worry I'm sure Sarah Brown thinks he should have been no.1 but she will have to settle no.10 on a housing list. In response the shocked Gordon said he was elated that he beat Mr Obama who has now topped him.
The primary problem with this is it is a matter of personal taste. You can't make a statement like 100 sexiest men alive unless you survey every person alive.
I guess the point I am making is that in the media there is a degree of misrepresentation and newspapers and magazines tend to focus on a certain group. I would like to advise that if you ever read tabloids you should always read with a critical outlook. Ask is this accurate? Who wrote this (if its Mrs Porter run)? Is it exaggerated or extorted? But basically:
Never
Believe
All
You

Ever
Believe
All
You
Read.
Ever

More commentsI thought the article was ok, though, the topic is not something I'm very interested in. It did give me an idea for my articles, as I didn't know you could use all the different styles, and sizes, and even pictures. As you can tell, I'm kind of new to search warp.I see... Well, here is a little tip when rating articles rate them not based on whether or not you are interested in them but rate on the quality of writing.Anyway, welcome to SearchWarp and thanks for the comment.
I do agree with the point you made about how this type of article is bias. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You are also right about celebrities being the only one to make the list. That's because they are the reason people will buy.Yes that's about it.Thanks for the comment
I am really not into the sexy guy scene. Don't know who these guys are.Just not my thing.DId you read the article? It is not really about who is hot and who is not. The article is about an inaccurate and misrepresenting media.Anyway, thanks for the comment.
I'd be the wrong person to ask, my taste in men seems to vary from most women I know. I'm not all about the looks. Confidence and a sense of humour go a long way with me. I like a guy who has character, not much into 'pretty boys'. For instance, there were years if you were to ask me who I thought the sexiest man alive was, I would have answered "Ed Asner" hands down. (Remember, Mr. Grant, on Mary Tyler Moore?) Yup, he had it going on...Thanks for the comment.
According to Top Gear, James May was on one of the lists at 99.And Jeremy was high up.Nice article. Gordon Brown at 97? Heh.James May is 97 here and Clarkson is 84.Thanks for the comment.
Connor, I agree with you 100 percent! And, by the way, I don't have a clue as to who Robert Pattinson is.Secondly, thanks for putting up a pic (smile). Finally, I can put a face to the name.I wanted a to add a picture but I first wanted to know the site. The main reason I added it was I thought the columnist page looked stupid with me as the only person without a picture. When researching this article I found out Robert Patterson was in the Twilight film.Anyway thanks for the comment.
Thanks for the good laugh...such things comical... and sad. Well said friend....Thanks for the comment.
Jeremy Clarkson should have been No. 1
I actually only know 3 of the guys on that list. I made my own "top 100" list a while back (only celebs on it, though there were a lot of local guys I would have put on it, if I had known their names! LOL!)Anyways, folks who read my list complained that 90% of my list included dead guys they had never heard of before - Fred Astaire, Jerry Orbach, Liberace, Vincent Price, Yul Brynner, ect. or musicians that they said were not sexy enough - Serj Tainkian, Rob Zombie, Slash, ect. They also complained that my list included men who seemed "too plain" or "average looking" and than about 40 of the men on my list were bald. They also complained about the fact that there were 4 or 5 drag queens and transvestites on my list. And finally, they complained that most of the pictures on my list were of men in their 50's, 60's, and 70's, comments said that these same men looked better in their 20's and 30's and that I should have used younger pictures of them.Well, you know what? I happen to like these older, plainer, more average looking men. I also like drag queens, and who says that creepy heavy metal dudes are NOT sexy? And, I personally am one of those women who finds bald men sexy - in fact my SO of 22 years is a bald man and I find him very sexy. In other words, "sexy" is in the eye of the beholder and the men I found sexy, I guess most other women didn't find sexy, while the lists of men they found sexy, well, I looked at those guys and thought: "Huh? Those guys look fake and plastic. I want my men to look real."So, yeah, long comment short, I agree with you. You can't have a 100 Top Sexiest Men that is a one list fits all. Every person has their own definition of what sexy is, and therefor when push comes to shove, every one is going to have a different set of men for their own personal Top 100.You've got it bang on. It's pointless writing it for others. Thanks for the comment.
Wow! Very nice article :)"You can't make a statement like 100 sexiest men alive unless you survey every person alive." (y)Thanks for the comment.
