The Wonderful World of Reusable Silicone Cupcake Cases

My Books and Articles (under construction)

You may be wondering why me of all people would ever dream of writing an article about baking – to be honest so was I. The last time I tried to bake something was last year and that was a pineapple upside-down cake. Though, technically it wasn't…   I left it in the oven too long and forgot the pineapple. I like to call my new creation Le Gateau Noir (the black cake) even if it was more like charcoal surprise.

I guess we have gathered I am not SearchWarp's baking guru. But I am one for cutting down on waste and that is where the cupcake cases come in.

I recently found out that it was possible to buy cupcake cases that could be used hundreds of times. ‘What a great idea', I thought, ‘I can stuff my face with cup cakes and hardly damage the environment'. Really what more could you want?

Value for money of course. Most people are put off by the relatively high price tag: at one retailer I found them to cost £5.50 which is quite expensive for cupcake cases. However, if you are into baking and can get the cases back you only need to use them around 20 times to get your money back. It does sound a lot but I'm sure if you know you have them you will feel inclined to use them.

That brings me to the question of how to use them. All you have to do is use them like a normal cupcake case then after the contents have been consumed collect them in and wash them ready to be used again.

I would recommend that you start to use these cupcake cases at home and together we can work creatively to sort the over wastage problem the world is facing. Oh and by the way you will not need a carrier bag for your cases.

I enjoyed the article and will probably try these. My only concern will be what if I don't get them back -- I normally bake for the church or other pot-luck dinners, so getting them back could be a challenge. Do you know if they come in a variety of sizes?

Getting them back is a big problem. You can tell everyone but they may forget and put them in the bin - rather expensively I must add.

As for if they come in a variety of sizes - yes.

Anyway, thanks for the comment.

Perhaps less use of the word "I" would make the article more interesting!

It was either ASDA (British Wallmart) or Tesco.

I think it's great that you encourage people to think about the environment even when doing the little things in life!

I really did enjoy it, and if I still had children in school, and had to constantly make cup cakes for their class, I would really love it.  Every bit helps when you are doing baking...it can get very expensive.  This is definitely a money saver.  Good Job...thanks for telling us all about this product.  I had never heard or seen it before.

Connor, great article! If I baked at all, I would definitely use these. Alas, I wouldn't even have gotten as far as you did with your cake.

Thanks for the info, Connor. They are neat little things, but I don't see myself giving up my cupcake papers and metal pan just yet. Good article, especially since you stepped out of your comfort zone.

Great resource. Now, do you have a recipe for super duper yummy cupcakes that have zero fat and zero calories? :)
