Space 1999, Fat Chance of that!

Way back in the distant 70's an excellent sci-fi was created based on what people thought that life would be like in 1999. It was set in a moon base in 1999. They had all the star trek gear. They had all the mod-cons, radio computers antigravity – the lot. I can actually see where the makers are coming from. Imagine being back in the 1970's thinking "we have been to the moon we have satellites and we can walk in space, we are sure to be living in space soon… "
So now we have a space agency that is strapped of cash trying to undertake multibillion pound projects. How does this get us to mars exactly? The only way NASA can seriously go to mars is if it saves up all its pennies for years.
We are getting nowhere fast. We need the whole world to get together and fund a mission to inhabit the moon like in space 1999. Think about it, it would be like having a world war on a pensioner's budget. We could even take the modern approach and put it on a credit card. Why not?
Because will all moan. We will say look where all our money is going. The tabloids will do what they always do – exaggerate and the mere earthlings will believe them.
I think we should go and get our act together and get on and live like those in space 1999. I suggest we save money and use tabloids as the rocket fuel – well what else are they for anyway?
Let's say space 2099 for a start.
